Our Services
Vaccination
& Health Checks
An annual checkup is vitally important to maintain optimum health for your pet.
ROUTINE CHECKS
It is vitally important for your pet’s health that they have regular checkups. This is normally done at the time of their annual vaccination booster. At this check the vet will examine your pet’s eyes, ears, nose and mouth for any problems. The vet will also listen to the heart, and lungs. The abdomen will also be palpated checking for normal size and location of liver, spleen, kidneys, bladder, intestines and prostate. The lymph glands and skin are also checked for any concerns. Finally the anatomical conformation is checked for any concerns with the joints, muscles or bones.
This allows concerns to be picked up and treated early. The annual checkup is a good opportunity for you to discuss any concerns you may have about your pet’s health. The veterinarian can also let you know measures to help prevent your pet developing health problems.
MICROCHIPPING
All dogs and cats must be microchipped by 12 weeks of age in NSW. This can be performed at the first or second vaccination and health check of your puppy or kitten.

REGISTRATION
Kittens require registration with council by four months of age and puppies require registration with council by six months of age. Registration incurs a one-off fee with your local council, which lasts for the lifetime of your pet. NSW Council registration fees are significantly higher for undesexed animals.
SMALL ANIMAL DESEXING
Routine desexing is important to prevent unplanned litters in domestic pets. Desexing is also important in preventing undesirable behavioural traits from developing, such as agression, marking territories and sexual behaviours.

Desexing in male dogs and cats significantly reduces the risk of prostate cancer, testicular cancer and constipation that can be caused by an enlarged prostate. Desexing in female dogs and cats prevents mammary tumours (breast cancer) and pyometra (infection in the uterus), which can be life-threatening.

We also offer desexing of other domestic animal species such as rabbits and ferrets.
Soft Tissue Surgery
Mudgee Vet Hospital offers a wide range of small animal soft tissue surgeries.
SMALL ANIMAL SURGERY
All surgeries need an initial appointment to ensure your pet is in good health for us to perform surgery.
We perform anything from abscesses, caesareans, abdominal, chest and reproductive surgery as well as emergency stitch-ups. Anaesthesia is undertaken using the latest veterinary equipment and protocols. Pain control is an integral component before, during and after a procedure.
SMALL ANIMAL SURGERY
All surgeries need an initial appointment to ensure your pet is in good health for us to perform surgery.
We perform orthopaedic surgeries on all sizes and ages of cats and dogs. The procedures include fracture repairs, joint arthrodesis (fusing of unviable joints) and cruciate surgeries (knee surgeries). Mudgee Vet Hospital accepts referrals for cruciate surgeries (TPLO surgery) and fracture repairs from practices all across the Central West region.
Dogs and cats can have teeth problems just like humans. At Mudgee Vet Hospital we can treat most of these problems.
SIGNS OF DENTAL DISEASE
Bad breath, dribbling, pain when eating, reluctance to eat and swollen areas around the teeth are all signs there is a problem.
DENTAL OPERATIONS
Most procedures will require a general anaesthetic. Simple procedures such as a teeth clean include removal of tartar with our ultrasonic scale and a high speed polish. More involved procedures include extractions. Our state-of-the art dental equipment allows for easier and less traumatic teeth removal.

PREVENTION
Prevention is better than cure. Dogs and cats that work their teeth on bones and harder biscuits generally have better teeth than pets on wet canned food. If your pet can have a meal with a bone, this will assist in keeping cleaner and healthier teeth.
Diagnostic
Imaging
Mudgee Vet Hospital offers a complete range of modern imaging equipment and capability.
X-RAYS
Mudgee Veterinary Hospitals digital X-Ray machine allows for rapid and accurate diagnosis of orthopaedic and soft tissue related issues.

ULTRASOUND
We have a brand-new state-of-the-art ultrasound machine dedicated to small animals. Ultrasounds are another great non-invasive tool to assist in diagnosing a problem that your pet may have. As with the digital x-rays, these images can be saved, stored and emailed as required.

ENDOSCOPY
We also have a range of endoscopes that we use. They are small cameras that allow us to look inside your pet without invasive surgery. These are the same endoscopes that are used in human medicine for internal examinations.
IN-HOUSE PATHOLOGY
Mudgee Vet Hospital has a complete range of in-house IDEXX pathology equipment, including the capability to measure red and white blood count, clotting time, biochemistry (organ function), endocrine function and urine analysis.

LABORATORY
Our in-house microscopes allow us to assess cytology (tissue and fluid analysis) in a timely manner.

PATHOLOGY REFERRALS
For further investigation of bloods and tissue samples, Mudgee Vet Hospital can send samples to IDEXX or Vetnostics for analysis. Referral results are typically received within 3 days.
HOLISTIC PHYSIOTHERAPY
Veterinary Rehabilitation is an emerging field where therapeutic modalities are used to help reduce
pain, restore function and mobility and improve the overall quality of life in our pets. Essentially, we
use the same therapeutic principles physiotherapists use to help people to recover from injuries and
surgery.
Our accredited veterinarian Dr. Genevieve Liebich holds dual qualifications in the field of Physiotherapy and Veterinary Medicine, and offers a holistic approach to managing pet's musculoskeletal and neurological conditions.
